Welcome, fellow adventurers, to the Apeldoorn City Tour! Apeldoorn began life as a modest farming settlement on the edge of the Veluwe forest, but it grew up fast: a royal canal in the 1820s, a railway junction in the 1870s and 80s, and a booming shopping street turned this village into a proper city within a single lifetime. Yet through it all, one thing never changed — Apeldoorn's special bond with the Dutch royal family, who have kept a palace here since the 17th century. This walk takes you from the grand old railway station, along the historic canal that once powered local industry, through the market square where a medieval church once stood, and up the tree-lined Loolaan to Paleis Het Loo itself — the summer residence of Dutch stadtholders and kings for nearly three centuries, sometimes nicknamed 'the Versailles of Holland'. Answer a question at each stop to earn a letter. Collect all nine and you'll be able to crack the final puzzle!
